China owns plenty of Jade resources. Four famous jade are Hetian Jade, Xiu Yan Jade, Dushan Jade, and Jiouquan Jade.
The most famous jade is Hetian Jade, which is addressed as the "country jade" in China. The Hetian jade belongs to the nephrite family. it is opaque and has a lustrous wax-like appearance after polishing. It has a hardness between 5.5 to 6.5. Its refractive index is 1.606 - 1.632, and its density is 2.9 -3.1 g/cm3.
The quality standard of Hetian is different compared with jadeite jade. Transparency is important for jadeite jade but not Hetian jade. For Hetian Jade, it is all about the texture. Fine, smooth, oily, and pure are all important.
